PROJECT CARGO CASE STUDY: HEAVY LIFT & SPECIALIZED CARGO HANDLING

MANAGING COMPLEX PROJECT CARGO FROM ANTWERP TO BUSAN

Moving oversized and heavy project cargo requires more than transportation. It demands careful planning, specialized lifting arrangements, cargo supervision, and secure handling throughout the operation.

In one of our project cargo operations, Eurise K coordinated the shipment of two self-propelled transporters, weighing approximately 123 metric tons and 77.7 metric tons, from Antwerp, Belgium to Busan, South Korea.

The cargo operation involved transferring the heavy units from an inland barge onto an ocean vessel using a floating crane, followed by positioning, lashing, and securing the cargo for the intended sea voyage.

Key Project Highlights

  • Heavy Lift Operations

Handling project cargo weighing up to 123 MT, requiring specialized lifting equipment and coordinated operations between the inland barge, floating crane, and ocean vessel.

  • Barge-to-Vessel Transfer

The cargo was transferred from an inland barge to the ocean vessel using a floating crane, with the cargo hold prepared with flat racks to create a suitable loading platform.

  • Cargo Survey & Supervision

The cargo handling process was monitored throughout the operation, including inspection of the cargo, loading activities, and final securing arrangements.

  • Lashing & Securing

Following loading, the units were secured using steel link chains, wooden chocks, and rubber protection to ensure the cargo was appropriately secured for the intended sea voyage. The 123 MT unit was secured with 24 steel link chains, while the 77.7 MT unit was secured with 16 steel link chains.

The Result

The loading and securing operations were completed successfully. Following completion, the securing arrangements were inspected and found adequate for the intended sea voyage. No visible damage was noted during the survey attendance.
